Steelers-Ravens: 3 keys to victory

Usually, a Steelers-Ravens contest is filled with excitement and trash talk. But things are a little different this year, mainly because the Ravens stink. Nonetheless, this game is still important for the Steelers, as they would like to secure a playoff berth ASAP, and with the Jets going up against New England this week, Pittsburgh has a significant opportunity to distance themselves New York in the wildcard race. Here are three things that will be important for the Steelers to execute to avoid a slip-up.

Key #1- Secondary: Don't have a meltdown

The Ravens have been a predominantly passing team all year, and even more so ever since starting running back Justin Forsett broke his arm in Week 11. The Steelers secondary has been terrible, and with Antwon Blake still slated to receive playing time at corner back  despite a broken hand, fans still have reason to be skeptical. But because either Jimmy Clausen or Ryan Mallett will be behind center, things might not be too bad. I don't expect the Steelers secondary losing them the game, but don't be surprised if they allow a big gain or 2.

Likelihood to execute: Fair

Key #2: Rush the QB

The Steelers front 7 does a respectable job of rushing the QB, as evidenced by the fact that they have accumulated 40 sacks this season, tied for 4th most in the NFL. The Ravens also do a good job of protecting the Quarterback, as only one team in the league has allowed fewer sacks than Baltimore (22). This should be an interesting match-up to watch, but I expect the Steelers to win it because their defensive line has more to play for than Baltimore's offensive line does. If the Steelers can provide pressure on whoever is behind center, they will take a great deal of pressure of of their inept secondary.

Likelihood of Executing: Solid

Key #3: Be the Steelers

It's no secret that the Steelers are the better football team in this game. As long as Pittsburgh takes this game seriously, does their thing on offense, plays well enough on defense and avoids dumb penalties (Cody Wallace), they will win this game fairly handily. The Steelers very nearly beat this band of bums with Mike Vick at Quarterback and with Joe Flacco, Steve Smith and Justin Forsett all in Baltimore's lineup, so Big Ben should do the job just fine against either Clausen or Mallett. If the Steelers play with 1/2 of the intensity that they played with in the second half of the Denver game last Sunday, they will be just fine.

Likelihood of Executing: High

Final Prediction: Steelers 35, Ravens 20
