College Football Bowl Predictions: Part 1

Hello, all. Welcome to Part 1 of our college football bowl preview. Bowl predictions will be broken up in to two parts, and my cousin brad plans to insert a graphic into Part 2. The bowl games predicted in this entry will be the ones from Dec 19-26.

Alcorn State will win the inaugural celebration bowl. It's a special event, but not a traditional bowl game, as it is between 2 FCS teams.

The ''6-6 and favored by 9'' bowl (New Mexico Bowl)
Arizona (6-6) vs. New Mexico (7-5)
Joe: Arizona's once-promising season turned into mediocrity, but I think that their season will be salvaged somewhat today with a bowl win. Anu Solomon leads a talented offense for the Wildcats, and they will put up a lot of points today. New Mexico will not be able to compete with one of the big boys.

Arizona 45, New Mexico 28

Player to Watch: Anu Solomon

#22 Utah (9-3) vs. BYU (9-3)
Joe: Utah has fallen off a bit, as they were ranked #3 in the nation at one point. The Utes will be in for a test today, but I think they will pull out a close victory. Devontae Booker will lead the Utes offense with 100+ yards rushing, and the Utah pass rush will make like difficult for freshman QB Taylor Mangum.

Utah 28, BYU 14

Player to Watch: Devontae Booker

APP State is in a Bowl Game! (Camellia Bowl)

Appalachian State (10-2) vs. Ohio (8-4)
Joe: Both of these teams have a high-powered offense, but the APP's WILL WIN THIS GAME. It's their time, dammit.

APP State 52, Ohio 41

Player to Watch: Marcus Cox

The ''Who the Hell Cares'' Bowl?
San Jose State (5-7) vs. Georiga State (6-6)
Joe: Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. San Jose State, I guess. This is why I should be in charge of College Football. I would have it so that to qualify for a bowl game a team must have a minimum record of 8-4. That way, crap match-ups like this wouldn't happen. And to think the Citrus Bowl used to be a big deal.

The ''Bourbon Bowl'' (New Orleans Bowl)

Louisiana Tech (8-4) vs. Arkansas State (9-3)
Joe: Jeff Driskel was supposed to be the messiah for the Florida football program, but it did not work out that way. Now, he is at Lousiana Tech, and I think the senior QB deserves a proper sendoff. He will get one today, and stud running back Kenneth Dixon will be the reason. Dixon will rush for 140 yards on the dot, and the Arkansas State defense will not be able to stop him. Here's to you, Jeff.

Hilltoppers on Top (Miami Beach Bowl)

Western Kentucky (11-2) vs. South Florida (8-4)
Joe: Western Kentucky is a good football team. They have just two losses, along with an impressive win over an SEC program (sorta) in Vanderbilt, as well as nearly knocking off Indiana at their place. They have killed everybody else on their schedule, and I think it is their time to shine. Brandon Doughty is a beast with 4,594 yards passing, and he will turn in one of the most impressive performances of this bowl season.

WKU 45, South Florida 24

Dec. 22
Who the Hell Cares (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl)

Akron (7-5) vs. Utah State (6-6)
Joe: Akron by something. Put me in charge.

Temple Tough (BOCA Raton Bowl)

Temple (10-3) vs. Toledo (9-2)
Joe: These former MAC programs both have built up good college football programs, but I'll give Temple to edge because of the way they play defense. Temple will slow down Toledo's vaunted running attack (which features Alliquppia grad Terry Swanson),  and you must watch #8 Tyler Matakevich, The Nagurski winner is one of my favorite players in college football, and I think he will be all over the field, leading a talented Temple defense.

Temple 24, Toledo 14

Dec. 23
Boise State fell off a bit (Poinsettia Bowl)

Boise State (8-4) vs. Northern Illinois (8-5)

Joe: After getting off to a blazing start, Boise State has cooled off down the stretch, finishing the regular season with a record of 8-4. Although this season will go down as somewhat of a disappointment, Bosie will salvage with a bowl win. I think the Broncos will find their early season form and cruise to a rather comfortable win.

Bosie State 34, NIU 17

Player to Watch: Jeremy McNichols.

This will get ugly (GoDaddy Bowl)
Remember when she was relevant? Photo creds to www.danicaracking.com

Georiga Southern (8-5) vs. Bowling Green (10-3)
Joe: Bowling Green? More like rolling green. Georiga Southern is just not talented enough to compete with a very talented Bowling Green team. This will be a blowout.

Bowling Green 45, Georiga Southern 13

Player to Watch: Matt Johnson (will go over 5,000 passing yards for the year)

Christmas Eve
I hate college football sometimes (Bahamas Bowl)

Middle Tennesse (7-5) vs. Western Michigan (7-5)
Joe: Well... watching a game played in the Bahamas will be interesting at least.

The Aztecs are on fire (Hawai'i Bowl)
San Diego State (10-3) vs. Cincinnati (7-5)
Joe: After starting out 1-3, San Diego State has caught fire and is currently on a nine-game winning streak. I don't expect a pedestrian Cincinnati team that allowed 65 points against the Univerisity of South Freaking Florida to slow them down.

San Diego State 45, Cincinnati 24

Player to Watch: Donnel Pumphrey

Dec. 26
We Are Marshall (St. Petersburg Bowl)

Marshall (9-3) vs. UcConn (6-6)
Joe: This should be a close game despite the records fo the teams involved. UcConn's stout defense will make things interesting, but I think the Thundering Herd are the better team, and, therefore, they will get the W.

Marshall 27, UcConn 17

Player to Watch: Davonte Allen

IT's all about the wsU (Sun Bowl)
Miami (8-4) vs. Washington State (8-4)
Photo Creds to Seattle.Cbslocal.com

Joe: Mike Leach has made Washington State football relevant for the first time in a while, but the season has been clouded somewhat by an embarrassing defeat at the hands of rivals Washington in their regular-season finale. I think the Cougars will be determined to end this year on a high note, and that's what they will do. Luke Faulk is a good QB, and he will go off on the suspect Miami defense.

Washington State 52, Miami 31

Player to Watch: Luke Faulk

Guess which team is favored by 8.5 points? (Heart of Dallas Bowl)
Washington (6-6) vs. Southern Miss (9-4)
Photo creds to www.telegraph.co.uk

Joe: Despite having three fewer wins, Washington is favored by a wide margin. I think that there is a good reason for this. Washington will feed off of that creaming of Washington State, and I have a gut feeling that their margin of victory will more than justify the point spread.

Washington 42, Southern Miss 14

Player to Watch: Washington Defense

This actually will be exciting (Pinstripe Bowl)
Photo creds to www.bleacherreport.com

Indiana (6-6) vs. Duke (7-5)
Joe: Both of these teams play no defense, so this will be interesting despite the records. Nate Sudfeld is a special QB, and I expect him to throw all over Duke's defense, outdueling Thomas Sirk and getting the Hoosiers a big bowl win in a shootout.

Indiana 52, Duke 44

This, on the other hand (Independence Bowl)
Virgina Tech (6-6) vs. Tulsa (6-6)
Joe: VA Tech is favored by two touchdowns, and that sounds about right. Might be wise to skip this one.

Disgraceful

Nebraska (5-7) vs. UCLA (8-4)
Joe: No disrespect to Nebraska, but I hope UCLA beats them by 40. It is embarrassing that a 5-7 team should be allowed to play in a bowl game. Please try to argue with me.
